- Open reviewRight from the start, I can say this came surprisingly close to scratching the same addictive itch as Balatro. They compensate for the lack of variety by building around chess mechanics, which gives the game a strong sense of replayability. Even exploring the menus and discovering things there created a really positive first impression. The only issue—and not necessarily a harsh negative, since there actually are quite a few gambits—is that after a while, I occasionally started feeling like I was playing the same kinds of runs over and over again. That holds it back from reaching its full potential a bit, though it’s still a polished experience in many ways.
