The retro-revival scene is one of my favourite aspects of modern indie gaming, and in particular I adore when developers decide to dip into the nostalgia old farts like I have for the Game Boy. Squidlit's wonderful black-and-green display feels like it's right out of my childhood, and the simple story in which a squid (obviously) sets out to save their hometown is equally old-fashioned in all the good ways. Gameplay is pure platformer joy, just running and jumping and occasionally trying to bop something on the bonce, and it's all over and done with decidedly quickly. Nevertheless, if you want a taste of Game Boy goofiness without the hassle of pulling out that giant grey brick (not to mention finding enough batteries to bring it back to life) then Squidlit has you covered. Check out my full review! The Almighty Backlog, review #47: https://thealmightybacklog.wordpress.com/2019/07/14/squidlit/)
