I think it offers a genuinely solid experience.
Visually satisfying, great music, responsive controls, and enjoyable level design.
The only negative point I can make is that, despite having a high baseline quality, its ceiling never really breaks past a certain point.
For me, it felt like a good but old game with a modern coat of paint.
As an example — not in terms of genre, but as a side project comparison — the Curse of the Moon games, despite having less “modern polish,” still felt more contemporary in terms of game design.
This isn’t a huge negative, but it’s a little disappointing knowing it could have been more.
On a more positive note, I especially enjoyed the final boss and closing sequence.
