If you love anime and you also love games, your expectations for anime games naturally drop to a certain level. Along with that, your enjoyment threshold drops as well. Even games that are far below the standards of their own genre can still be enjoyable when they bring together characters and stories you love. Sometimes, despite all that mediocrity, they can even earn a small place in your heart.
You get used to bad games, honestly. And yet, you still feel like playing them. You still manage to enjoy them in some way. I’m not even talking about the rare cases with genuinely good stories—if a game is good even by the genre’s own standards, that already becomes a big pleasure.
And then there are cases like this. A series that isn’t forgotten or left behind, but on the contrary, one of the biggest franchises of its era—and yet it gets a game so disappointing that you can’t fully grasp how bad it is even from the terrible-looking videos.
Did I still play it until I had consumed all of its single-player content? Yes, I did.
Did I occasionally have fun once the initial shock wore off? Unfortunately… yes, I did.
