I think I played this feeling the same emotions I had during Telltale’s The Walking Dead Season 1. I liked the characters, I liked the dialogues, and I appreciated how the game was very upfront about the fact that—outside of a few key moments—my dialogue choices were just that: dialogue options. Instead of giving me the illusion of making major decisions, it was honest about offering choices meant to enhance the experience, not mislead me. That sincerity worked in its favor.
Story-wise, I also loved that it didn’t just use superheroes as a backdrop, but actually focused on what heroism means, which made the whole thing even more immersive.
All of this applies to the VN-like parts of the game. And then there’s the dispatch sections… Woah. If those were released as a standalone game, I’d gladly play them too. The character banter, the dynamics between them, and the simple fact that the mechanic itself is genuinely fun all worked together to elevate my experience even further.
