The game actually presses a lot of the right buttons, and I think the ideas — or rather, the dreams they had for it — are genuinely solid and enjoyable. It just never quite reaches a fully polished execution. Mechanically, I found it satisfying enough, and if you enjoy this kind of core gameplay loop, it’s good enough to keep you engaged. But unfortunately, it lacks the kind of extras that could draw in someone unfamiliar with the genre — or even offer something distinct for those who already love it.
Its style really worked for me, both in terms of design and its comic book–like presentation, but I can’t deny it also felt quite generic at times — and that sense of familiarity bleeds a bit into the story as well. In the end, it’s a game that comes very close to finding its own voice, but it just doesn’t quite have the reach to get there.
