I think this game is a bit underrated among the Naruto titles. While it definitely lacks some features compared to its sequels (which is understandable since it came out earlier), I think it makes up for that with its Adventure Mode.
First of all, the combat mechanics are far from boring or clunky. In fact, the core systems from the Ultimate Ninja series were successfully transferred over and even polished in ways that the Storm series would later continue to use. Sure, the roster is more limited, but not to the point that it hurts the experience.
The real highlight, though, is the Adventure Mode. It might not have flashy presentations or tons of cutscenes, but it integrates its three main mission types (outside of the three big boss fights from the main story) in a way that fits perfectly into the narrative. The semi-open world it offers is surprisingly enjoyable — whether you're chasing side quests, exploring the village, or interacting with characters as the story progresses, it delivers a genuinely fun single-player experience.
