Killzone 3 (PS3) – A Retrospective Review
I think that the last game of the trilogy is also the strongest in the series. Killzone 3 is superior to its sequel in nearly every aspect; featuring better gun play, improved enemy AI, enhanced graphics, and more mission design variety. For me, it’s a solid, well crafted shooter that still holds up in 2025.
That being said, the story feels like it drifted away from what made Killzone unique. The darker, grittier tone of Killzone 2 is noticeably softened here. At times, the dialogue felt like something out of a low budget Hollywood action movie, which made it hard for me to stay invested in the story.
The world of Killzone always felt like it had so much more depth and epic potential to explore; like there was a lot more to discover. But the games usually stick to smaller, more contained stories within that big universe. Killzone 3 is no exception.
Still, despite its flaws, I genuinely enjoyed my time with Killzone 3, even in 2025. Nostalgia probably plays a part, but honestly, I think it’s also because we just don’t get games like this anymore. Linear, corridor style shooters have almost vanished, and playing this reminded me how satisfying that old school pacing and level design can be.
"7.5/10"
