Anomaly Agent (NSW)
First things first, I have to mention that Anomaly Agent has a special place for me. It was developed by Phew Phew Games, the studio founded by Enis Kirazoğlu, someone I’ve been following in the gaming industry for a long time. So yeah, I might be a little biased when it comes to the game.
Even though I’m not very familiar with the action platformer genre, Anomaly Agent managed to keep me entertained for its roughly three hour runtime. It doesn’t try to reinvent the genre or bring anything completely new to the table, but I think it does what it sets out to do successfully. The story and plot are good enough to keep you curious about what’s coming next, but there’s one thing the game handles much better than most: its humor! I think playing it in its original language, Turkish, also helped me appreciate that even more. Anomaly Agent is full of dialogue that I genuinely understood, found funny, and thought was cleverly written.
For a studio’s first game, I think Anomaly Agent is a pretty successful debut. It may not be the most groundbreaking action platformer out there, but it’s a fun and short experience that knows what it wants to be. More importantly, it gave me another reason to be excited about whatever Phew Phew Games does next.
