Scholar of the First Sin is probably the best way to experience Dark Souls II. It keeps the same core experience, but improves it with the additional content, revised enemy placements, and various changes that make the world feel more complete and challenging.
The three DLCs are definitely one of the strongest parts of the package, offering some great areas, bosses, and exploration. I still think Dark Souls II is the weakest of the trilogy, and Scholar doesn’t completely change my opinion on that, but it does make the experience better and more polished overall.
It’s still a great Souls game, just one that I personally enjoyed less than the other two entries in the trilogy.
