DOOM: The Dark Ages is an incredible entry in the series. At first glance, the gameplay might seem very similar to the previous games, but once you actually play it, you realize how much it changes the formula. It feels slower and perhaps a little easier, but that definitely doesn’t make it any less fun.
The shield is probably my favorite addition. It’s incredibly versatile and adds a completely new layer to the combat, giving you more options and making encounters feel different from the previous games.
The overall production quality is also noticeably higher. The environments, visuals, animations and presentation really show how much the series has evolved. With The Dark Ages, DOOM feels like a full-fledged AAA experience, without losing the brutal and satisfying gameplay that makes the series so unique.
Overall, a fantastic game and a great new direction for DOOM.
