Origins takes us back to 47 BCE, in the midst of Ptolemaic Egypt. We play as Bayek, a Medjay who finds himself hunting down the sinister Order of Ancients in revenge for the murder of his son. His parental grief and rage makes him a deeply sympathetic character, and the writing for Bayek throughout is some of the franchise's strongest. Taking cues from major RPGs like The Witcher III, Origins is an open world action-RPG. The open world is mind-bogglingly massive, taking place over a vast swathe of Egypt, and the world is finally filled with huge arrays of worthwhile content with sidequests galore. The combat has been refined yet again into a more straightforward action-styled format. Completing objectives earns EXP which can be spent on 3 large skill trees, allowing for some customization of the way you play Bayek. This look into one of the earliest points in the Assassin's Creed timeline is a marvelous RPG that demands your time as each new area is more scintillating than the last.
