A pleasing return to retro-styled 2D platforming for Rayman, following on in the footsteps of Origins. Built on a framework of fun (if fairly easy) platforming, the game shines brightly at points but is mostly just a fine time with a ton of busywork for fans of collectathon gameplay.
Legends is unashamedly old-fashioned in how it works: it's just you and a basic set of moves - run, jump, glide and very occasionally bop an enemy - and a metric tonne of levels to test your dexterity (and occasionally, your patience). It's a joyously uncomplicated experience, although the game truly comes to life in the musical stages. These are few and far between but they're the unquestionable highlight of the game as the platforming falls into a wonderful rhythm.
That said, I've little patience for the sheer amount of collectathon nonsense on display here. While beating the game requires you to amass a modest amount of Teensies and Lums, I imagine something like Legends is a minor nightmare for completionists - you'd be going for ages with it!
