The first of Mass Effect 3's DLCs, From Ashes lifts the veil - at least in part - on one of the franchise's most enduring mysteries, the Protheans.
Available relatively early in the game, the Normandy crew return to Eden Prime from the beginning of the first game to find a single surviving Prothean - the warrior Javik. Not only does he have a slew of unique skills, reflecting his roots in a long-lost civilization, but he also offers brand-new commentary during each of the game's core missions, making taking him along for an entire playthrough a frankly mandatory experience in my view. If you're a lore nerd, From Ashes offers a vital expansions to Mass Effect's writing.
