The crux of my problem with Injustice 2 is that I deeply hate the writing here. I understand that the first game was built on a "Superman-gone-evil" story, but Injustice 2 takes it to new depths. The core story begins with Supergirl arriving on Earth looking for Kal-El, hoping to warn the world of the approaching forces of Brainiac but, of course, things are out of whack in the wake of the defeat of Superman's tyrannical Regime. Batman and Superman are forced to put their problems aside to defend the world against Brainiac, but unfortunately NetherRealm's unbridled hatred of DC's characters shines through any of the writing as heroes made vicious and frankly unhinged actions that are entirely out of even the remotest line for their characters. It's a very good thing that the combat is even better than the first game's. Everything runs extremely fluidly and with a wonderful sense of impact and weight, and if you can sink into it you will find yourself immersed into a fighting game filled with creative characters and fun combat. However, there's another black mark against Injustice 2, and that is the extremely aggressive strategy of microtransactions and expensive DLC. Characters can equip gear to augment their stats, which would be great were it not the fact that the only way to earn gear is to crack lootboxes. You can earn some lootboxes in-game but you're definitely expected to fork out tons of real cash to get these normally. No, NetherRealm, I will not. Check out my full review!
