Time for a bit of self-admitted bias: I'm not that big a fan of FPS games. However, I like to think I can keep an open mind, and occasionally an FPS comes so highly recommended that I want to give it a try. That's very much the case with Titanfall 2, which enjoys a ton of praise; what's more, it's so entirely deserved.
At the centre of why Titanfall 2 is so good is the relationship between our player character, Cooper, and his Titan, BT. The pair have a ton of banter throughout the campaign, leading to some truly arresting moments that you'd have never called from a game about piloting a big war robot.
Of course, the gameplay has to be good as well to back it up, and thankfully Titanfall 2 excels here. There's a huge focus on slick and acrobatic movement, both on foot and even when in your Titan. Gunplay is impactful and explosive, especially when combined with your leaping around the battlefield; when you get it right and things click you wind up flying around with deadly abandon. On top of that, the level design is absolutely stellar, with some incredibly imaginative stages that deserve to be seen.
