  • Euphoria Gremlin’s review of Crash Bandicoot: Warped

The N-Sane remake of Crash 3. This time around series baddie Neo Cortex teams up with evil mask Uka Uka and fellow mad scientist N. Tropy to send their forces throughout time in order to gather crystals, forcing Crash and his little sister Coco on an adventure across time to stop them. The cartoonish vibes are still strong - don't expect a serious time travel story! There's even more level variety than in 2, but it's not all for the better; some, like the racing or flying levels are a bit rubbish, but the core stages are as good if not better than they are in 2. The difficulty is finally in a perfect sweet spot, the boss fights are finally fun to play, and you even learn new moves as you progress that are well implemented into the level challenges. A worthy finale to the trilogy! Check out my full review! The Almighty Backlog, review #34: https://thealmightybacklog.wordpress.com/2019/03/10/crash-bandicoot-3-warped-n-sane-trilogy/

  • Euphoria Gremlin’s review of Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back

The N-Sane remake of Crash 2. Crash returns to action, this time seemingly working alongside series villain Neo Cortex, who ropes his nemesis into collecting magic crystals for him ostensibly to stop an even bigger baddie from taking over the world. The writing leans heavily into Saturday morning cartoon vibes, which works really well! The gameplay is also a vast improvement over the first game, with a greater variety of level designs, even more challenges for masochistic completionists to sink their teeth into, and a much more tightly designed difficulty curve. • Euphoria Gremlin’s review of Spyro: Year of the Dragon

Much like its predecessor, Spyro 3 was already one of the finest platformers on the PS1 so this remake really has little more to do than apply a fresh lick of paint and otherwise looks to preserve the original experience as cleanly as possible. Also like the 2nd game's remake, I'm a bit of a slave to nostalgia here in that I grew up with the original release and so aspects of this remake's presentation rankle me slightly. Some of the character redesigns and voices don't sit neatly with me, but that's merely me being old talking. However, a more notable problem is that this remake, uniquely among the Reignited trilogy, seems to be more buggy than it ought. For me this was a relatively minor issue given the quality on display elsewhere, but your mileage may vary. Check out my full review! • Euphoria Gremlin’s review of Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!

The Reignited remake of Spyro 2. While the first game's remake felt like a significant update and modernisation, I think it's fair to point out that the 2nd game was already a notable upgrade over the first, so there's less for Toys for Bob to tinker with. The primary problem I found with this remake is one of nostalgia. I'm not entirely convinced that's a fair judgement call on my part, but alas; the PS1 release of Spyro 2 is one of my favourite games of my childhood so suddenly hearing brand new voices and seeing some slightly revamped designs can't help but make me feel a bit odd. My personal reservations aside, this is still a very fine revamping of Spyro 2. It's preserved largely unedited save for the fresh coat of paint, so if you've never tried one of the PS1's best collectathon platformers this is by far the most accessible version. • Euphoria Gremlin’s review of Spyro the Dragon

The Reignited remake of the first Spyro the Dragon game, Toys for Bob succeed here in modernising and reinvigorating the game that started it all. When it was released on the PS1, the original version of this game was good but definitely had a few quirks that held it back. The Reignited version removes every one of them, presenting a rendition of Spyro that controls tightly, with clear and easily parseable information about the collectibles in each level. It's also brimming with personality. All of the dragons and the realms they inhabit have been updated with unique designs that fit the theme of the hub worlds, which might seem like a small and inconsequential change but adds a ton of colour to the game's setting. If there is a drawback to Spyro Reignited, it's that it's a faithful remake and therefore brings the foibles of the 90s era of platformers to the fore. Check out my full review! As a visually impaired gamer, I used to be able to play only one or two games. Now, accessibility mods are coming out one after another, and I can’t keep up. I thought that putting together a list like this would at least help me sort through them.
