This might be a touch controversial, but I love this game even more so than its beloved predecessor. I say this without hyperbole: I think KOTOR II is the finest Star Wars game ever made, and I hold it next to works like Andor and the original Thrawn trilogy as the absolute pinnacle of the Expanded Universe. The reason is in the game's writing. Set some years after the events of the first game, we are the Jedi Exile - one of the very last Jedi in a galaxy torn apart by Revan and Malak's war. The Exile returns to the galaxy to find it shattered; there's a bounty for any remaining Jedi, and a hidden coven of Sith hunt us, desperate to destroy the final vestiges of their hated enemy. The characters at the centre of the story are exceptionally written, chief among which is Kreia. A blind old Jedi, she functions as a twisted mirror to Obi-Wan in Episode 4, a broken, bitter, and twisted mentor who constantly questions our morality and weaves plots and nasty whispers in our ears. The result is a vicious deconstruction of many of Star Wars' central concepts as characters orbit around the Exile, providing a dark, warped, deeply philosophical take on the franchise. Of course, KOTOR II is perhaps most infamous for its incredibly short development time, and as a result it has a ton of cut content such that many consider it an unfinished game. And yet, I honestly don't think that matters. What is here is nigh-perfect in my mind, an unrivalled story that showcases the best of Obsidian's work. Check out my full review! In my mind, this CRPG take on Star Wars is among the very finest pieces of media ever to be set in George Lucas's galaxy far, far away. Bioware's work here is exemplary, a huge story that spans the entire galaxy as you fight to end a vast war that threatens the entire Republic. Set some 4000 years prior to the original trilogy, we find the stars beset by an unending horde of Sith. We play as a rookie ensign in the Republic army who winds up wrapped up in a plot by the Jedi to finally defeat the unhinged power of Darth Malak. Central to the narrative is the presence of Darth Revan, a Sith defeated prior to the events of the story but whose influence still ripples throughout the conflict. After escaping a planet besieged by the Sith, we are tasked with reassembling a map to an ancient weapon, gathering myriad allies to our cause and delving deep into the roots of the war. The writing is a major strength here; while the trappings are as familiar as ever when it comes to Star Wars, the galaxy still feels new thanks to the setting far divorced from the usual time period of Rebels and Imperial might, with a ton of fantastically written characters that have held an indelible influence in the wider Star Wars canon even to this day. Combat is classic CRPG fare, with a vast array of options at our disposal as we level up our character, specialising them into Star Wars themed versions of the standard warrior / mage / rogue builds. While the pace can be a bit lumbering and there's a lot of clicking and inventory management to put up with if you're not a fan of this style of RPG, for me it's a comforting and familiar approach to gaming that I adore coming back to again and again.

As a visually impaired gamer, I used to be able to play only one or two games. Now, accessibility mods are coming out one after another, and I can’t keep up. I thought that putting together a list like this would at least help me sort through them.
