- Open reviewIt might partly be because I hadn’t played a Telltale game in so long, but I genuinely had a good time with this one. As someone who’s had Telltale in their life since Sam & Max and Bone, I’ve seen their beginnings, their rise, and their fall. During their content-splosion phase, I eventually hit a point of burnout and distanced myself. But now, years later, playing a game in this familiar format again reminded me—it doesn’t actually feel bad at all. I just wish the Telltale formula had evolved slowly over time with more care and less frequency. Sadly, that’s not how it played out. Speaking of The Expanse specifically, I wasn’t familiar with the franchise, so I came in without any built-in investment. Still, it didn’t take long for me to warm up to the story. While it’s not a mind-blowing narrative, I found following it enjoyable enough. There are a few small tweaks and experiments within the usual framework, but overall, this is exactly what you’d expect from a modern-day Telltale game—no more, no less. So as long as you go in knowing that, you won’t be disappointed.
