- Open reviewCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is probably one of the weaker Call of Duty campaigns I’ve played. The gameplay itself is still enjoyable, with the classic Call of Duty gunplay and some interesting missions, but unfortunately there isn’t enough here to really make the experience stand out. Some of the Vietnam missions are definitely among the better parts of the game, with a few really memorable sequences. However, I didn’t particularly enjoy the more psychological and mind-bending sections. The whole mind-game aspect felt quite confusing and sometimes unnecessarily dispersive rather than genuinely interesting. The story also didn’t do much for me. There is an interesting twist towards the end and some decent moments, but overall I never felt particularly invested in the characters or the narrative. It’s not a completely bad Call of Duty, because there are definitely some good missions and the gameplay is still fun, but as a whole it left me pretty underwhelmed.
