A list of games is a useful place to start
GG describes three straightforward jobs on its homepage: keeping a game collection, making custom lists and following friends. A list of games for two people or a personal top ten can be enough if you mostly want to remember titles and share recommendations.
Firetale covers that habit with backlog tracking and ranked, unranked and tier lists. You can also attach a more detailed record to a game: when you played, which platform you used, your status and what you thought. Ratings are optional whole numbers from 1 to 10.
Think about the last time you opened a tracker. Were you looking for the name of a game to play next, checking a friend's list, or trying to remember what you thought about an earlier run? Use that task to compare the services, rather than choosing on the number of features alone.
When you want more than a place on a list
On Firetale, a game can be Playing, Paused, Beat, Played or Quit, as well as Backlog or Wishlist. Beat records a finish; Played does not imply one. You can leave a game in your history even if you stopped early or it has no conventional ending.
Separate playthrough records are useful when you revisit a game. A later run has its own dates, platform, rating and notes, so you can record a changed opinion without erasing the first experience. Spoiler controls keep a review's plot details from appearing immediately to someone still playing.
This comparison uses GG's published homepage and app information for its claims about GG. It does not treat a feature omitted from those pages as proof that GG lacks it. If a particular diary field is essential to you, check it in the current GG product and compare it with a Firetale entry before deciding.
Choose the phone experience you will actually use
GG's official app page links directly to Android and iOS downloads. If having an app on both operating systems is a deciding factor, use those links to check the current store listings, device support and any in-app purchases.
Firetale works on desktop and mobile web and can be installed as a PWA. Its Android app is in beta. A PWA gives you a home-screen entry to the website; it should not be confused with a promise of a dedicated iOS app or identical behaviour across every mobile browser.
Try the everyday actions on your own phone: find a game, save a status, write a few lines and read a review with spoilers hidden. A comfortable editor and readable lists will matter every time you open the service.
What moving from GG currently involves
Firetale does not currently offer a dedicated GG importer. Do not upload a GG file to the Backloggd or Infinite Backlog importer expecting it to work: those importers require their own supported formats.
If part of your collection is also on Steam, PlayStation, Xbox or GOG, you can use the relevant Firetale importer to bring in the data that source supplies. This can help build a library, but it will not recreate reviews, ratings or lists that only exist in GG.
For the rest, start by logging a small selection manually. Keep a copy of any history you want to preserve before changing where you record new games. Your followers and conversations do not move just because a game's title appears in both catalogues.
Firetale can export game logs as CSV or JSON and offers a full account JSON backup including lists. Its game-log re-import does not restore custom lists or account settings. Those limits are worth knowing before you use any tracker as your only copy of a long-running diary.
Try the reading experience before moving the writing
If you want GG's collection-and-list routine and its Android or iOS app, it remains a reasonable option to examine. This page is published by Firetale, so it is a product comparison from one of the services being discussed, not an independent review or a claim that everyone should switch.
Try Firetale if a play diary, numerical ratings, standalone posts and player taste matching fit how you use games. Creating an account and core logging, backlog management, lists and discussion are free. Its Pro page explains optional features and subscription availability; no GG Elite price or feature claim is assumed here.
You can read public game pages, reviews and lists before signing up. Then try one finished game, one game you quit and one replay. That small set will show how the record behaves without committing you to moving an entire collection.
Questions about GG and Firetale
Is Firetale an alternative to GG?
Yes, for tracking games, keeping a backlog, building lists and following players. Firetale also has a playthrough diary, scores out of 10 and a social post-and-log feed. GG's official site highlights collection tracking, custom lists and its mobile apps.
Can I import my GG collection directly?
Not through a dedicated GG importer today. You can log games manually or use a supported source such as Steam, PlayStation, Xbox or GOG for the data that source contains. That will not transfer GG-only reviews or custom lists.
Does GG have Android and iOS apps?
Yes. GG's official Apps page links to Android and iOS store listings. Firetale supports mobile web and PWA installation, with an Android app in beta.
Will my friends and conversations move with my games?
No. Firetale's game-library imports do not transfer GG followers, comments or conversations. You would need to find or invite people separately.
Can I browse Firetale without an account?
Yes. Public game pages, reviews, lists and the release calendar are available without signing in. An account is needed to save logs, follow players and post.

Following friends, or finding new players to follow
GG's homepage encourages following friends to see what they are playing. If the people whose lists you use are already there, that is a practical reason to keep using it. An existing group is not something a different tracker automatically transfers.
Firetale has a feed for game logs, reviews and standalone posts. Replies and quotes let a review become a conversation, and posts give you somewhere to discuss a game before you want to score it. Public reviews and lists are readable without an account.
Firetale also suggests players using shared games and ratings. A large imported collection can establish overlap, while ratings give more evidence about agreement. It helps when you are looking beyond your existing friends, but it does not guarantee that every suggested player will share your opinions.
