A journal can mean more than one finished-game date

Backloggd distinguishes a log from its journal: a log represents a playthrough, and the journal records days played within it. Its FAQ also separates game-wide status from log-specific details and ownership entries. If you want to mark individual play days, those distinctions are worth looking at before you move your history.

Firetale keeps an editable record for a game and separate playthrough history. A replay can have its own dates, platform, rating and notes. Your first experience remains part of the record when you return later. Neither service needs to be described as a single completed-game checkbox; both have a place for repeat play.

To compare them, try a game you have replayed: one run on a console, another on PC, with a different opinion each time. Look at how each service shows the earlier run, the current score and the review you want other people to read.

Check what a score refers to

On Firetale, a rating is a whole number from 1 to 10. You can also record whether you recommend the game. This leaves room for a game you admire but would only recommend to a particular kind of player. Beat and Played are distinct statuses: logging experience with a game does not automatically claim you finished it.

Backloggd's FAQ explains that each log may have its own score, while one overall score contributes to the game's average. When comparing your history across services, inspect an actual game with multiple logs. A rating on a playthrough and the overall rating on a game page can serve different purposes.

An import can only carry information that the source file contains. Check both the game-level score and the replay details in the preview instead of assuming a file called an export includes every field you used.

Reviews inside a wider gaming conversation

Firetale gives game logs and reviews room in the same feed as standalone gaming posts. You can reply to a review or quote it into another conversation. If you want to write a small observation before you finish a game, it can be a post without becoming your final review.

Player discovery also uses recorded games and ratings. Shared ownership alone is weaker evidence of shared opinion than agreement on games both people have rated. That distinction matters when an imported library is large but mostly unscored.

Backloggd already has following and review discussion. The practical choice is whether its journal-led social activity covers what you want, or whether you prefer Firetale's wider post-and-log feed. If the people whose reviews you read are already on Backloggd, staying close to those people can matter more than a different feature set.

Moving from Backloggd to Firetale

Firetale accepts JSON and CSV produced by Toolkittd, an independent browser extension formerly called Backloggd Plus. This is a file import. It is not a direct Backloggd sign-in, an official Backloggd API integration or a continuous two-way sync.

Use JSON when you need detailed statuses, reviews, spoiler flags, platforms and multiple playthroughs. The accepted CSV format is more limited and contains only the first playthrough per game. Keep the original export as a backup, review the matched games and inspect a replayed title before confirming the import.

Existing Firetale logs are skipped rather than overwritten. The importer does not promise to recreate your Backloggd followers, comments, likes, custom lists or every ownership field. Matching may need your attention where a title or edition differs between catalogues.

Export
Get the supported JSON or CSV file using Toolkittd. A copied profile URL is not the required file.
Review
Check matched titles, statuses, scores and replay records in Firetale before saving.
Compare
After importing, inspect a few familiar games against your original export before adding more history.

Which one should you use?

Try Firetale if you want a game diary connected to posts and discussion, use scores out of 10, and want to find players through your recorded taste. Logging, backlog management, custom lists, posts and discussions are free. The Pro page covers optional features and the current subscription plans.

Backloggd is a sensible choice if its detailed journal is already part of your routine. Its official FAQ describes free use with optional paid Backer support. Check the current Backer information directly for perks and pricing; this comparison does not assume every feature on either service is included in every plan.

You can evaluate Firetale without moving everything. Read a few public reviews, browse lists, then manually log a handful of games. That gives you a better test of the writing and reading experience than a table of check marks.

Questions about Backloggd and Firetale

Is Firetale a Backloggd alternative?

Yes, for a game diary, backlog, ratings, reviews and lists. Firetale also includes standalone posts and player taste matching. The services organise some journal and collection details differently, so compare a few real entries before moving a large library.

Does Backloggd support multiple playthroughs?

Yes. Its official FAQ describes multiple logs per game, each with its own rating, review and platform. Firetale also keeps separate playthrough records.

Can I import my Backloggd account into Firetale?

You can import supported game-log JSON or CSV exported with the independent Toolkittd extension. JSON supports more detail, including multiple playthroughs. This is not a full account transfer and does not transfer followers or conversations.

Will importing overwrite logs I already have on Firetale?

Existing Firetale logs are skipped rather than overwritten. Review the import preview and keep the original export so you can inspect any games that did not match.

Are Backloggd and Firetale both free?

Both provide free game tracking. Backloggd offers optional Backer support. Firetale's core logging, backlog, lists and social discussion are free, with optional features described on its Pro page. Paid perks and availability should be checked on the respective sites.
